An earthquake off the coast of Chile. The Nazca Plate and the South American Plate had created a transform boundary. This stored up an enormous amount of friction, that was later on released and created. The earthquake had then created the Hawaii tsunami, by it creating a wave of energy in the Pacific ocean. In Chile there were around 1 million people who lost their lives. To add on, Japan and the Philippines were also hit by this tsunami. In which killed 138 people in Japan and 32 people either disappeared or died in the Philippines. The estimated damage was around $75 million.
