Today, I planted a baby fig tree in my back yard. Not only are trees good for the environment because they produce oxygen through photosynthesis. This tree will also produce fruit that will be good to eat. We should all take steps to better the environment and simple things like planting a tree are a win-win for everybody!

The past few weeks I have been starting my own garden with herbs, strawberries, tomatoes, squash, and peppers as well as, starting a compost bin. Today I spent time watering and maintaining my plants and also researching about compost. This will limit the waste I contribute into the environment and allow me to add nutrients to the soil in my garden. By growing plants I am producing more
oxygen into the air and being sustainable. This picture is just of my tomato plants

The planet is in a constant state of birth, as she struggles to maintain life on Earth. As we continue to cut down our rainforest trees, all while the pesticides kill our bees, still all we seem to see is greed. Broken bottles and shards of glass, cigarette butts thrown through the grass, can you believe we have whole Islands of trash? When will we finally be alert, and how long will Mother Earth have to hurt? I can sit here and rhyme about it for days, while our glaciers are melting from harmful rays. How in the world can we save Earth from all this pollution The truth is, you alone can be a part of the solution.

Ava Albanese-
This past fall we put in drought resistant planting in the yard. Having a lawn in California is no longer a good idea because of our constant state of drought. They use too much water than can be justified. Drought resistant planting uses much less water. It also brings hummingbirds and bees and quails etc. overall it is a good choice for the environment and looks pretty as well!

I decided to sit in my backyard for 20 minutes. My backyard leads directly into a forest going up into the mountain. It's so lush and beautiful. It's also home to a bear(s) that love to eat my trash! While the trash eating isn't my favorite part, living somewhere so ecologically diverse is amazing. It's bright and hot in my backyard but with the large redwood trees it gives cool spots and shade. My husband and I started a garden in April which includes tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, basil, thyme, oregano, rosemary, and mint. I love going out everyday and seeing their growth. There are also dogwood trees, wildflowers, ivy vines, and a hydrangea bush. We also get a ton of blue jays that fly around singing to each other. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I need to do this more often :)
