WA1 Discursive Essay

Reflection:
Q. What prevented me from getting a higher grade?
I was feeling very unprepared, and panic strike me during the exam. I feel like I could have done way better due to me feeling overwhelmed, and I could have read more on discursive writing so that I could make my writing more interesting. My spelling and grammar errors ‘killed’ me. 😭

Q. What can I do to do better?
I should read and annotate more model discursive writing. This way I can learn more good words and phrases to use in my writing, and learn more ways to make my introduction interesting enough to hook the reader more. I must improve on my language, especially my vocabulary.

Q. How do I feel about my first grade for English? [200 words]
(21/30 - A2)
I feel actually quite happy and relieved about my first grade for English. It is because I was only expecting myself to get a borderline pass since I was not really confident in my writing. Plus, I feel like I kind of rush through my writings and did not have much time to properly prepare for the discursive essays. So, I was definitely surprised to find out I achieved such grade and managed to match up with those classmates I admire and look up to a lot. I hope to keep this up. However, I do feel a little disappointed because I could have gotten a higher mark if only my language was better. I hope to improve quickly on these weaknesses and maintain a better grade. 🙏🙏🙏

March Hols Short Response

During the March holidays, I take some time to catch up with my close friends from primary school. We headed to Marina Barrage so we could enjoy a picnic on the green roof. We spoke, ate a lot, and played with bubbles and kites. After not seeing them for a few months, I was delighted to learn about their experiences both within and outside of school. Besides that, along with my classmates, we visited the National Museum. Together, we strolled and took a variety of photos, having the chance to form closer bond with each other. Along with spending more time with my family, I also made time for myself. I can say that, I had a quite eventful March holidays, though I wished the holidays could have been a little longer.

Would you be keen to pick up an extreme sport? Why or why not?

P: I would not be keen to pick up an extreme sport.
E: This is because I think that extreme sports are very unsafe and too scary for me. They are characterised by high speeds and high risk. They include a variety of activities with high levels of adrenaline that appeal to adventure lovers, who I am not.
E: For example, cave diving is an extreme sport that involves diving in water-filled caves many feet underneath. This can be very dangerous, it is because the caves are very tight and small spaces. You could easily get stuck, and become injured. And since, cave diving involves swimming through narrow and constricted spaces. If I were to experience this, I might end up feeling extremely claustrophobic. Moreover, since it takes place deep down underground in water, there will be very little oxygen. Just a small accident might cost you your life. I also remember watching some videos about fatal cave diving accidents online. One of which is The 1973 Mount Gambier cave diving accident. It was a scuba diving incident on 28 May 1973 at a flooded sinkhole known as "The Shaft" near Mount Gambier in South Australia. The incident claimed the lives of four recreational scuba divers.
Another example is bouldering. Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations without the use of ropes or harnesses. It is very life-threatening as you could easily fall and end up in grave situations. In order to do such extreme sports properly, you will also need a good physique and go through many professional trainings too. Overall, I think that I am not fit for any of these. I also cherish my life a lot, so I would not risk it to just experience a few seconds of adrenaline rush when there are also other safer options that I can choose like indoor rock climbing with safety equipments. These safer options can still provide me with the same level of adrenaline.
L: Thus, I would not be keen to pick an extreme sport.

How have you shown resilience in your life?

Life can be hard. We, as students, need to go through various exams, and as reality slaps me hard in the face, I do fail my tests sometimes.

Despite failing a test, I remained determined and not let it falter me completely. I remind myself, FAIL = First Attempt In Learning. It is not the end of the world yet! I recognises where I’ve gone wrong and review my mistakes, seeking help from my teacher, and creating a dedicated study plan. This resilience fuels me to work harder to achieve better results on the next exam.
