I think Caesar wrote the "Bello Galactico" because he wanted to be remembered in history. Knowing how so much of history is lost due to lack of information, I think Caesar wrote this because he wanted people to know how he conquered the world. I think this definitely shows how intelligent he was and how great of a military commander he was. This document is interesting because it gives a first-hand explanation of history instead of the usual guessing and filling in the blanks we usually have to do. This has been Graham Bowden on "French in the morning" tune in next week for more stuff. *holds coffee mug and smiles at camera as scene fades out*

He wrote this document to increase his support from the plebians who he usually relied upon for political success. Judgments about Caeser would be he is like most politicians as he circumvents parts of the law for their own agenda and throughout the document he is repeatedly associating bloodshed with valor. An interesting thing about the document is he dissects the cultures of those who he conquers and studies them, going into their beliefs and ideologies.

1.) I believe that Caesar wrote this document because upon his return to Rome he would have to face many of his enemies. One of which was the Boni whom wanted to persecute Caesar upon his return. This would make all his wealth and property go away, and all the acts and laws he set in stone when he was in the consul they too would go away. Caesar knew they would succeed if he didn't get aid from the plebeians. This is why Caesar wrote this document, and I also believe that he wanted to make sure people knew his great accomplishments.
2.) I believe that Caesar wanted to keep his reputation and integrity, and so he believed that if he wrote about his great accomplishments people would know how influential and important he was to the Roman Empire.
3.) I find it interesting how that many people hated and despised Caesar when he brought much wealth, and accomplishment to the Romans. He also won many battles and wars which caused people to fear the Roman Empire.

1) By creating different provinces, I believe Caesar wished to better organize and separate the different cultures of the Gauls. It's also possible that by creating these boundaries, he wanted to gain the support of the different groups; thus grouping together those who would work best together.
2) When reading this document, Caesar seems respectable and straight-forward. He also writes like a person who wants something in return.
3) One of the most interesting things about this document is how it creates a Roman perspective of the historical event. As the common saying 'History is written by the victor', but this event has perspectives from the Gauls and the Romans.

Caesar hoped that by legitimizing his rule in such a way, he could receive the support of the Senate and of the people.

Through this passage, we get a glimpse into Caesar's various character traits, and some of the most predominant ones were his haughtiness, factual objectivity, cunning, and drive.

One of the most interesting things about the document that I found was Caesar's genuine fascination towards the order and importance of the Druids in Gaul. I would have thought that Caesar would have hardly noticed the inter-workings of what he likely would have considered a lesser society, but rather, Caesar took interest in how the society functioned, at least in regards to the role of druids.
