In a drought, there are not many resources. Obviously one resource droughts do not have is water. Droughts kill off agriculture and damage the raising of livestock.

A group called the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) help farmers and ranchers through a drought. Lots of people do not want to live in a drought because of the lack of water, the crops dying and the farmers going out of business. There's no grasslands for grazing livestock, which means the livestock are being affected too.

Jaime Gonzalez, the owner of the small landscaping business,  La Nina Landscape in North Hollywood has lost over 20 customers and had to fire 2 of his 11 men. The occupations during a drought can vary. Many farming jobs, landscaping jobs and gardeners have gone out of business. Usually this is short term, but

For example, 

In California, there was a study that estimated over 18,000 people lost their jobs. The U.S Department of Labor plans to spend $18 million in grants to help the people who lost their jobs, to find jobs.

During a drought it is good to have sunscreen on because of the hot rays from the sun. It is also good to have sunglasses and to drink plenty of water. Doors and windows should be insulated, attics should be ventilated and air conditioner filters should be checked. It is usually extremely hot during a drought so keep care of yourself and others. It is also important to take care of your animals!

For example: 

Governor Brown of California declared an official drought warning. He told everyone to take care of animals, themselves, and be careful. Farmers were told to give their cows injections of vitamin A & B as food, and to check the water quality frequently.

Lots of people can not afford to move out of a drought. Many people think the drought will just pass in a few days. For people who want hot air, drought borne areas are more popular. 

For example, California is not only popular because of Hollywood and tourist attractions, it's also popular for the living conditions. It is usually warm and sunny and most days are good to jump in the pool. In a state like Maine, not everyday is a pool day.
