The purpose of her joining the British Army was to join with partisan resistance fighters, Jews rebelling against the Nazis, to help beleaguered Jewish communities. In March of 1944 she spent about three months with Tito's partisans and then on June 7th, 1944 she crossed to border back into Hungary, but the Hungarian police caught her. They tortured her cruelly and repeatedly over the next few months as they thought she was a spy. However, Hannah remained steadfast and refused to give any information about her mission, even when they brought in her mother and threatened to hurt her. During her trial in October 1944 she refused to request for clemency and was executed by a firing squad.
