LESSON FOUR

Introduction

o       Explain the lesson will be divided into two parts.

o       The first part will be used by students sharing their work with their partners.  

o       Students should try grading the work.  (As prose analysis is no longer part of the Language coursework the criteria will be that of literature).  Make sure all students have a copy of the literature criteria and that it is stuck into their books.

o       Once graded, students will be able to begin re-drafting their work.

 

Pair Work (20 minutes)

o       Students work on their analytical assignments.

 

Class work (10 minutes)

o       Draw a table on the board.  Two columns – one entitled horror film and the other horror story.

o       Students then make suggestions as to what would make good horror.  For each suggestion they make they must put it either in film/story or both.

o       This should encourage them to think of important areas of imaginative writing like techniques used and descriptions.  

 

Individual work (10 minutes)

o       Students should make a list of the 10 most effective descriptions that could be used in a horror story.  Two should be to describe setting/ two to describe the villain/ two to describe the victim/ two to describe an event /two to describe an ending

o       Feedback.  

o       Best ones should be written on the board.

 

Homework: Students copy up their analytical assignment on paper.
