Entry#1 Power of Society

Personal View: A big, interdependent group of people is referred to as a "society." It has a big impact on how our present and future are decided. It is made up of people from varied backgrounds who, among other things, have different opinions, traditions, and religious beliefs. Decisions that affect our present and future are controlled by society. You disagree, do you? Think about your favorite cuisine, television shows, and movies. All of these inclinations are influenced by society. The social point of view helps us better comprehend how society works. Sociological notions include things like race, religion, and sexual orientation, for instance. Individuals can appreciate the sociological perspective more readily the more marginalized a group of people is. This capacity for inspiring and motivating others to make a difference. This capacity for seeing connections between one's life and the outside world.

My personal view: Everything here is influenced by society. It molds us into the individuals we are. Our ideas, preferences, and opinions are shaped by it. People tend to feel odd, even anxious and ashamed when deviating from the established "standard," and it has the capacity to influence us and make us want to comply. Society affects both our present and our future. The framework of our society offers us choices for everything from educational opportunities to legal rights or being accepted as a person. Due of the color of their skin, how they represent their gender, and their sexual orientation, people have less options. I think we should ignore society norms and go against them instead of listening to or adhering to them. I now understand how oppressive these standards are.

Summary:
What is capitalism you may ask ? An economic system called capitalism permits the private ownership of wealth, including money and real estate. Karl Marx was intrigued by this because he thought there was a problem. The wealthy gather and enhance their fortune under this system, which alienates the vast mass of people. The higher class takes advantage of the lower class in a way that keeps them in place, just like in this society. Karl Marx anticipated that this would result in a revolution among the lower class, bringing about a social shift.

Reflection:

In my view, capitalism is a horrible idea since it creates social structure. I oppose the concept of wealth accumulation and the rich getting richer yet. I think that both the lower and middle classes are oppressed by this system. Although capitalism helps to maintain social stability, the rich's superior social standing serves as a source of inspiration for the lower classes.

People chase after money in capitalism in the hopes of becoming wealthy. Everyone would not have to worry about money in an ideal world.

Culture shock Entry #3

Summary: As a result of culture’s influence on our thoughts and feelings, we develop routine habits that are accepted by our society. When we are exposed to new traditions and customs that differ from those we are use to, we experience culture shock. Other civilizations seem exotic and foreign to us because of this.

Reflection: It happens to everyone to experience culture shock. Traveling overseas might cause culture shock, but it can also happen when exploring different regions of our own nation. We would find it strange to see someone wave or say hello while executing an action that is different from what we are used to, like bowing. The standards for beauty are never the same, which can startle people's perceptions of it. One culture may consider having the most tattoos to be beautiful, while another may find them offensive.

Social Stratification #4

The Social Stratification stem is viewed favorably by functionalists.

They say that it promotes balance because, under a hereditary system, those at the bottom will have to fight to rise to the top, which encourages them to put in more effort until they succeed. Marxists, on the other hand, view it negatively because of how the upper class is taken advantage of and abused by the capitalists. Additionally, he thinks it is pointless and divides society.

I'll have to admit that functionalists do hold the advantage in this area. The rationale for this is that no one would have a life if everyone were to be identical. Nobody else will be as eager and motivated to socialize as you are. Nobody will be motivated to rival one another. And that is human nature because, as stated by science, we require some degree of disorder in order to function. In addition, even the lowest paying vocations are vital since, if everyone were a doctor, businessperson, or engineer, who would help maintain the roads or work in factories?
