Eddie pushes away a girl from a falling cart and loses his life in the process. This is important because he needed to die in order to set the story up. I was surprised that Eddie would give his life for a little kid he just met. I am also suprised that we don't find out what happens to her.

My reaction to this was a little confused why is Eddie such a miserable person but is still so generous to people at the place he hates.

Eddie's captain gets blown up by a landmine trying to bring his men to safety. This is an important part to the story as he sacrificed himself so his men can live and get Eddie medical attention. I was shocked that the captain had sacrificed himself so Eddie can live and that he was the one to shoot Eddie to save his life and stick to his promise of leaving no man behind.

Rabozzo was very sick while in the captivity of the crazies. Because he was sick, he wasn't able to work as hard as the others. One of the crazies was poking at Rabozzo and Eddie tried standing up for him. However, this didn't work and Rabozzo was shot and killed.

Eddie was trying to distract the crazies to make an escape. To distract them, he showed them his juggling skills that he learned at the pier. After grabbing their attention, he coordinated with the captain and blitzed two of the guards. They stole their weapons and escaped their captivity.

Eddie's leg had always bothered him and he considers it something that ruined his life. Eddie didn't know how he hurt his leg in the war, but just that he was all of a sudden his leg was struck by something. When he realized the Captain had been the one to do this damage he was angry and beat him up in heaven.

Eddie is apologizing to his father for what his father has done to him and what he has done to his father. This is important as Eddie forgives his father for all of the neglect and abuse he has done to Eddie. I am glad Eddie forgave his father as it is kind of a turning point for Eddie to become a better and to help him stop being miserable.

Eddie's father saved mickey after mickey tried to assault his wife. This is significant because it builds up Eddie's father to be the person he is and how he cared about the ones around him but didn't show them that he cared. I am shocked to see Eddie's father being a good person even though he abused his family.

Mickey in act of loneliness and desperation acted on a bad impulse as tried to sexually assault Eddie's mother. This is important because of the situation mickey falls into the ocean and Eddie said he would have left him to die. But Eddie's father who seems like a horrible guy goes in and saves Mickey. I am puzzled on why Mickey who helps out Eddie's family would do something like that to people he cares about.

Eddie moves back with his mother to take care of her and finally accepts a full time job as the maintenance guy at Ruby pier, the job his father has pushed him to work ever since he started to work. This is significant as it is the beginning of the life that'll live till he dies at the one place that he hates. I am shocked that Eddie finally accepted the job at ruby pier and didn't find another job to support his wife and mother.
