Closeness in my own words would be defined as the shared rhythmic vibes/coordination that the artist share with one another and their instruments as they create pieces that stick with the listener.
"But the sound of closeness - two or more musicians, or musical elements, acting in pure coordination - tends to escape us because we can't see it. In singing or in playing, it gives the listener a secure, jacketed feeling. Closeness is developed over time, and its value to the ear is absolute (Ratliff,161)." I absolutely agree with his argument. As listeners we tend to not hear it or are completely oblivious to it. But as Ratliff explains closeness is something that is developed over time and when it is fully developed we can hear it for sure and see it as well within the music we listen to.
This musical element is very important in the music we listen to because without it we can’t relate to the song, the musician(s), or even the story they try to tell within the music they produce.
