 "But the sound of closeness - two or more musicians, or musical elements, acting in pure coordination - tends to escape us because we can't see it. In singing or in playing, it gives the listener a secure, jacketed feeling. Closeness is developed over time, and its value to the ear is absolute (Ratliff,161)." I absolutely agree with his argument. As listeners we tend to not hear it or are completely oblivious to it. But as Ratliff explains closeness is something that is developed over time and when it is fully developed we can hear it for sure and see it as well within the music we listen to.
