The rise of communism was due to a man known as, Mao Zedong. "He was poorly educated as a child, but was highly intelligent" and had great potential. Mao left his home and joined the National Army as the Chinese Revolution began around 1911. During this time, "China saw several movements which strongly fostered a path into Communism. These times of chaos and despair played a large role in the acceptance of Mao." He had the support of roughly 85 percent of the nation who were poor farmers. The Communist Party was formed in 1921 and was taken under Mao Zedong's control six years later, in 1927. Soon after it was formed, the Communists won the war, which marked the beginning of Communism.

Before the communists took over China and their government, China was ruled by emperors. China's last government was during the Qin dynasty. They also had the Mandate of Heaven which was their way of justifying a dynasty's authority.

Factors that Aided the Communist Movement

Several factors aided the victory of the Communist Movement. For one, leadership played a major role in the victory of the Communist movement. The Communists had a "well thought out plan and knew how to gain the support of the people". Another reason is that they had great tactics. The Communists "were able to make the most out of their positions at the end of the Second World War". Also, the Communists had help from the outside. The Communists received funding from America and military aid and guidance from the Soviet Union. Lastly, the people were a huge help to the Communists. They were able to gain support from the people. It was a massive advantage when advancing into enemy territory. These were the factors that aided the Communist Movement.

Life changed greatly for the Chinese after the Communists ruled. Women were given rights and privileges and were ensured equal to men. Thousands of people died during the process. Foreigners were killed, churches were destroyed, and many people died fighting the war. China wouldn't have gotten where it is today without the help of Mao Zedong, who was the Chinese communist leader and founder of the People's Republic of China.
