@lauren Several researchers provided feedback as part of the study and echoed this concern. "It is

puzzling why the control [rats] had short survival rate," one researcher wrote. If these animals

had lived as long as the irradiated rats, he added, they might have developed brain and heart

tumors at similar rates. The rate that rats develop brain and heart tumors, even without receiving

radiation, is typically 1.7% and 1.3%, respectively.

I think that after reading this article that cell phones do not cause cancer. First of all the only time the rats were getting cancer is when they were exposed to 9 hours of radiation a day. They did this because they said we would use our cell phones more in the future but what we are interested is in the present. Is the amount of cell phone usage that we are using now causing cancer? When they tested it with more realistic hours the rats developed less tumors. Even so the percentage of rats getting cancer was very low it was most of the time 1% to 3%. Another problem with this experiment is the use of rats. Rats are not a good representation of humans. The may consume radiation differently than us. If we wanted to have an accurate representation they should monitor people or something that consumes radiation like people and use a realistic amount of radiation. They then should moniter multiple individuals cell phone use from birth or expose the appropriate amount of radiation to the animal that they are substituting that consumes radiation like humans.

We aren't closely related to rats, so they might have different factors that make them more likely to have a brain tumor.
