As a future early childhood educator, if I were to use a subject-centered design, I would teach Mathematics to my kindergarten learners. In a subject-centered approach, the focus is on mastering the content, so my goal would be to help my students build strong foundations in number sense, patterns, and basic problem-solving.

In my classroom, I will use structured, sequenced lessons starting with basic counting and gradually progressing to simple addition and subtraction. I will use drills, visual aids like number charts, and practice worksheets to help children retain information and apply it correctly. Even though the subject is central, I will still make sure activities are fun and engaging, like using songs to teach skip counting or using concrete materials like counting blocks and number cards.

As a future teacher, I would choose to teach Science subject- specifically grade 3 earth and space and I will use subject- centered design in a way that first I will follow the structured curriculum, teaching my students in a logical order from basic to advanced for example my topic is the sun as the sun of the solar system therefore I will discuss first what is the solar system, then what is the sun and it's role. Second is a textbook as the primary tool which will be their guide as I teach in front and last I will be the knowledge source which I will lead the class and use direct instruction and after that I will give a short quiz to test if they have learned something in our discussion.

If I were given the chance to choose a subject to teach, I would choose Makabansa. This subject goes beyond simply making children aware of their surroundings—it plays a crucial role in strengthening their sense of national identity. Through Makabansa, children learn the values of patriotism, respect for the country’s history and culture, and love for the Filipino people. It helps shape responsible, socially aware citizens who understand their role in nation-building. This will correlate to Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao.

Example:

In makabansa the lesson is honoring the Philippine flag, then in ESP I can center my discussion to respect and dignity to show how internal values supports civic actions .

I would like to teach Science in the context of Eerly childhood, particularly the nature. In which, I would use the correlation design of the subject centered design — and will integrate the subject ARTS. For instance, the class will have a tour around the school surroundings, they will create a nature journal where they are free to draw, sketch, color, and even paint what they observed outdoors such as leaves, rocks, flowers, and even animals. They can use collage materials from nature (e.g., leaves, petals) to build tactile connections.

If I were given a chance to teach a subject in the future once I become a teacher, I would like to teach Science. With the help of the Subject-Centered design, I can teach it with correlation design. Many science topics naturally connect with health, such as the human body, nutrition, and hygiene. By integrating these subjects, I can use it by creating real-world connections between science, health, and everyday life, helping children relate to the content and develop a deeper, more practical understanding of the topics.

As a future ECE teacher, I would use process design to teach my students since this design focuses on skill-based learning and learning how to learn.

For example, I will teach the science topic “how plants grow.” Using process design, I will let my students plant seeds, observe them, and draw what they see. They can also ask questions and talk about their observations. This helps them learn by doing and thinking, not just listening. This also makes learning meaningful, fun, and appropriate for their developmental stage.

Kindergarten - English

If given the chance to teach a specific subject, I would choose language—specifically English—to teach my students.

At their age, their pre-literacy skills are the most crucial factor in developing their language and communication skills; hence, why I will be focusing on the aforementioned subject.

If I were to choose a subject to teach under the subject centered design, I will choose science using the sub-design of correlation.

In early childhood, we can use art and values to make science lessons more fun and meaningful where children can draw, paint, or make crafts to show what they learn in science, like animals, plants, or the weather. This helps them remember ideas while using their creativity. At the same time, they learn good values like caring for nature, being responsible, and showing respect. This way, children learn science while also becoming kind and thoughtful or the values that they should have and embody.

If I would teach a subject in ECE, I would choose to teach English as it is essential in helping young children develop their communication skills, especially in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

I would focus on building a strong foundation in the English language through structured lessons, such as learning the alphabet, common vocabulary, simple sentence patterns, and correct grammar.

I believe it’s important for young children to build strong communication skills early on. I will help them learn the alphabet, basic vocabulary, and simple sentence patterns through songs, stories, and games. These fun and structured activities will help them become confident in speaking, reading, and writing in English.

If I were a teacher using a subject-centered design, I would teach Science, specifically Earth and Environmental Science, because it allows for structured, content-focused instruction. I would deliver well-organized lessons on topics like weather patterns using textbooks, visuals, and guided discussions to ensure clear understanding. Students would engage in drills, note-taking, and practice exercises to reinforce key concepts, while assessments such as quizzes and tests would measure their mastery of the subject matter. This approach focuses on factual knowledge and logical progression, making it perfect for establishing a solid foundation in scientific thinking.

If I am now a teacher using a subject-centered design, I would teach the subject English in elementary level. I will focus on the lessons and topics in English that will develop their mastery in grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills. We will have a morning routine of spelling session, read aloud or storytelling time, and writing exercises that will enhance their skills while they use their imagination in writing and reading. The skills they will learn—like reading, writing, speaking, and listening—will not be limited as school use, but these are skills they can use in everyday life and in forever.

If I were to use a subject-centered curriculum design, I would teach Science because it provides foundational knowledge that helps students understand the natural world. This design emphasizes content mastery, so my main focus would be on delivering clear, structured lessons based on scientific facts, principles, and processes.

For example, if the topic is “The Parts of a Plant,” I would organize my lesson in a logical sequence: from identifying each part (roots, stem, leaves, flowers), to discussing their functions. I would use visual aids, real plant samples, and labeled diagrams to reinforce the concepts.

I will employ lectures, demonstrations, note-taking, and structured experiments where students follow step-by-step instructions. Assessments will focus on how well students retain and understand scientific content—through quizzes, labeling exercises, and short-answer tests.

If I were to teach a subject in early childhood education, it would be English.

I would use the subject-centered design approach in order to help my students develop phonemic awareness, correct grammatical structures, confidence in speaking and writing using the english language. I believe that teaching young learners the english subject is a crucial part in helping them become globally competitive in the future, considering how advance and fast paced our society is. If they are well-taught from the start of their academic journey, then I can help in nurturing well-rounded and lifelong learners.

As a future teacher using a subject-centered design, I will teach Science. I will help students explore the world around them by learning about plants, animals, weather, and simple experiments. This will help them understand how things work and why taking care of nature and the environment is important in their everyday lives.

Math is a subject that builds step by step, so it fits well with this design because the focus is on mastering the content. I would plan my lessons carefully, starting from the most basic concepts and gradually moving to more complex topics. For example, I would begin with teaching addition and subtraction before introducing multiplication and division.

In my class, I would explain each topic clearly, solve examples on the board, and give students plenty of exercises to practice. I would also use visual aids, charts, and hands-on materials to help them understand better. Regular quizzes and drills would help me check their progress and make sure they have mastered each topic before moving to the next.

By using the subject-centered design, I can help students develop a strong foundation in math and prepare them for higher-level problem solving. This approach ensures that they learn the essential knowledge and skills they need in a structured and organized way.

I will teach subject: English

As a future early childhood teacher, I will use subject-centered design to teach English by focusing on one topic at a time, like letters, sounds, and basic words. I will follow the curriculum closely to help my students build strong language skills step by step. For example, when teaching the letter “B,” I’ll use real objects like a ball and a banana, read a story about a bear, and let the children draw things that start with B. This helps them connect the lesson to real life while still focusing on the subject. Even though I’ll focus on English, I will use fun songs, stories, and hands-on activities so the children stay engaged. My goal is to make learning English clear, fun, and meaningful for young learners.

If I were a teacher now, I would teach the Science. Using a subject-centered design, I would be able to organize my lessons around specific science topics, such as living and non-living things, the five senses, animals, plants, and weather. Each topic would be introduced in a structured way, making the objectives and content clear and cohesive for the students.

For example, in a unit about life cycle of a butterfly, I would teach the students its four stages. I would use a real video of caterpillars turning into butterflies, as well as nonfiction books. To reinforce the concept, I would teach and sing a butterfly life cycle song. The learners could also create a life cycle wheel, visually representing each stage (egg -> caterpillar -> chrysalis -> butterfly) to test their understanding. Lastly, to assess student learning, I would observe and utilize activities, quizzes, and discussions to ensure they grasp the core concepts.

This proves that subject-centered design in early childhood does not have to be boring. It can still be hands-on and engaging while staying focused on an organized and important science content.

If I begin teaching and will be needing to use a subject-centered design, I will focus on the English subject. In this design, my main goal is to help children develop foundational language skills such as letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary building, listening, speaking, and early reading comprehension.

Since subject-centered design focuses on the content, I will ensure that children are exposed to a variety of age-appropriate stories, songs, and rhymes that enhance their grasp of the English language while maintaining engagement. Activities such as storytelling, puppet shows, and guided reading will help reinforce the concepts while making the lessons enjoyable.

As a future early childhood educator who wants to teach Araling Panlipunan, I will use subject-centered design to help young learners understand important lessons about our country, our people, and our history. This means I will focus on teaching topics like kasaysayan (history), heograpiya (geography), kultura (culture), and pagkamamamayan (citizenship) in a clear and organized way. I will make sure that every lesson has a specific topic, like learning about heroes, Filipino values, or places in the Philippines. I want my students to enjoy learning while also remembering important facts that will help them become good and responsible citizens.

For example, if we are learning about our national heroes, I will tell their stories in simple ways that children can understand. We will use pictures, songs, and short videos to help them remember who these heroes are and what they did for our country. I will also prepare fun activities like drawing timelines, role-playing, and using maps so that the children can see and feel the lesson. By using subject-centered design, I can guide my students to love Araling Panlipunan and understand why it’s important to care for our community and country, even at a young age.

As a future ECE teacher using a subject-centered design, I will choose to teach Science because it helps students understand the world around them. I will prepare lessons that follow a step-by-step process so students can understand the facts clearly. I will do most of the talking, while the students listen, take notes, and answer questions. Even if the lessons are more teacher-centered, I will still try to make the class interesting by using pictures, videos, and real-life examples.

If I had the opportunity to teach, I would choose TLE. This subject equips learners with important skills and practical knowledge that they can apply in real life and future job prospects.

My emphasis would be achievement of mastery in skills and content through the use of a Lesson Plan centered on a particular topic. If I were teaching cookery, for example, I would reinforce the proper use of safety measures and protocols by guiding learners step by step, starting from the proper identification and use of kitchen tools through to the preparation of complete meals.

While the subject-centered approach emphasizes the subject matter itself, I would still aim to keep lessons engaging by connecting them to real-life situations because I know that TLE helps develop self-discipline, independence, confidence, and a greater sense of self-reliance. These skills enable students to face challenges beyond the classroom.

If I were to use a subject-centered design, I would teach Science. I’ve always found Science exciting, especially for young learners—it helps them become curious and ask questions about the world around them.

Since subject-centered design focuses mainly on the subject itself, I would plan my lessons based on important Science topics like plants, animals, weather, and the five senses. I would guide my students step by step, helping them understand each topic clearly before moving to the next one.

For example, when teaching about plants, I’d explain the parts of a plant first, then let the students observe a real plant and label its parts. I’d use pictures, videos, and simple experiments so they won’t just memorize facts—they’ll see and experience how things work.

Even though the focus is on the subject, I’d still make sure my lessons are fun, interactive, and easy to understand for kids.

This approach focuses on structured content delivery, so my goal would be to help students master key concepts like Living and Nonliving Things through clear lessons, visuals, and activities like sorting and observation.

I would present information step-by-step, using worksheets, videos, and experiments to reinforce understanding. The focus would be on the subject matter itself, not personal experiences, and assessments would measure how well students grasp the content.

As an Early Childhood Educator, I feel so happy when I'm using the Subject-Centered Design. And if I were to teach a subject to them, I would like to teach the subject, English. Especially that the concepts and lessons that are related to this subject can be more taught in discussion, lecture, and textbooks. Hence, using Subject-Centered is appropriate.

Unlike other subjects where you can use many strategies and activities, teaching English is more structured. It is more based from reading materials, and because of that, I will use textbooks and written books in helping them learn foundational concepts like teaching nouns, verbs, pronouns, and even the basic sentence structures.

Aside from my students hearing the vocabularies spoken by me, it's also important that they can read it and see its spelling and structured in reading materials so that they would not be confused and they can understand it really carefully.

I should be careful and intentional in explaining the lesson and teaching them the significant concepts in English for them to understand and learn it the right way.
