If the atomic bomb was dropped who known how long the war would have been, or when it would have ended. Colonel Paul Tibbets, the pilot who dropped the bomb stated, "It would have been morally wrong if we had that weapon and not used it and let a million more people die" (Source A). This is true because the war would have caused millions of deaths on both sides, leaving both of our worlds totally different today. Also, if the United Sates saw another acceptable alternative, they probably would have used it, but there wasn't one. A report of the scientific panel to the interim committee states, "We can propose no technical demonstration likely to bring an end to the war; we see no acceptable alternative to direct military use" (Source D). This shows how they would have used an alternative, but there wasn't one. The bomb did not hurt Japan’s army but its innocent civilians. These innocent civilians did not fight in the war. Many of the sources say Japan was defenseless with a weak army so I believe that America, that had such powerful allies such as Britian, France and Russia, could have ended the war in a different way.
