I chose this picture to go under the linguistic category because it has lots of words on it. Because of the words, it is easy for people to navigate to their desired location.

Low Context

This sign is low context because it is very easy to understand what is required of you. The sign shows a traffic light to get your attention, and under it, it says to stop there in the case of a red light. There is no guessing required to understand its meaning.

Time

I put this is the time category because the top like says "Signal Kommt." The traffic light makes it easier for walkers to wait for the changing light because they understand that the signal to walk is on its way. They aren't going to be forced to wait around much longer. Because of this, Germans are willing to wait for the entire duration of the light in order to provide a good example for children.

This sign falls under non-verbal category because it does not use any words. this sign shows pedestrians and a bicycle because that is the two main forms of transportation on the sidewalk. It is informing people to stay to the right of the sidewalk in order to let people pass on their lefthand side.

This sign is clearly non-verbal because there are no words included. That being said, it is easy to understand. People understand that it is a construction area, and they need to be careful.

The sign with the truck on it is low context. The picture on it is clearly a truck with a length requirment. They do not want trucks that are over 10 meters long driving under the bridge.

I chose to put this bicycle stoplight in the environmental category because it shows how important "green" travel is to the Germans. Enough people ride bikes that it is practical to have lights just for them. I believe that the use of bikes and straßenbahnen are very good for the environment.

I also put this sign in environmental because it depicts an aspect of German culture that I find green. This is a sign that denotes a bus stop. The immense network of German public transportation is very good for the environment.

Social Organization

This sign is social organization because it warns drivers that there are people in the street. I found this sign in Wittenberg, but I also saw similar signs in Berlin. Because of the close proximity of living arrangements, there isn't much room for people to interact. The lack of space forces people to spend time in< and around, the streets. These signs instruct drivers to be vigilant while driving in the area.

High Context

This sign is, without a doubt, high context. I passed this sign everyday for two weeks before I had to look up its meaning. Turns out, this sign tells drivers that they have the right of way in an intersection.

This sign falls under the linguistic category because of the German words all over it. The read and white circle means "road closed." The words underneath are very clear and say "detour," ""construction vehicles only," and "open for residents" respectively.

This sign was found on the side of the Police Station downtown. Police might be the pinnacle of authority because they are what everyone thinks of when the topic of authority is brought up. Because the police enforce the law, they are always on the forefront of people's minds.

With this picture, I am looking at the temporary red X's. They are used to communicate that roads are closed and the verbal sign underneath no longer makes sense. Even though the sign in non-verbal, people still understand it at first glance.

High Context

This sign is also high context because it is not easily understood. This sign goes in conjunction with the yellow diamond sign. Upon looking on the internet, I found out that this was basically a yield sign. While the gold diamond means you have the right of way, this sign tells you to be careful because someone else has the right of way.

This is a speed limit sign that we passed everyday on the way to school. I put this under authority because it makes me think of police and the law. Speed limits are one of the most commonly broken law. While driving with our guest mother, many other cars drove over the speed limit in order to pass us.
