He removed the 2 year term limit and has been in power since 1990. Because of the oil boom in 2003 he promised that the wealth would trickle down to the Chadians, but he ended up using a larger portion of it for military. The middle region has the Sahel running through it. This region has a vegetation ranging from grass steppe to savanna. The southern part has a tropical climate and gets the most rain. Most of the people live in this region because it is easier to live in. Lake Chad is one of the most important wetlands in the whole continent.
