In this webquest you will be learning about a famous American philosopher, but additionally you will be given a chance to reflect on learning, motivation, goal-setting, and determination in context.

Organize yourself into a team of 2 or 3. All team members are responsible for learning and helping their teammates learn. Make sure that everyone has a role to play in the group. Here are some example roles: note taker/time keeper, leader, contact person (asks teacher for help). Make sure to agree with everything as a group, and take time to divide the work in a way that makes sense before starting the project.
Research Eric Hoffer’s life. Use Google search, Wikipedia, and any online articles you can find. Work together but divide the work equally. You are researching up to his age 15.
See the documents which follow-- the letter from the teacher, Eric’s report card, and instructions/template. Discuss the instructions as a group.
Individually, email the teacher your responding letter.

STEP 2:

Get back together with your group. You are now going to research Eric Hoffer’s life from age 15 until his death. This time, you are focusing on his achievements and his motivation. Answer the questions, what motivated him? What goals did he have? Did he reach them? You may not be able to find the exact answers in your research, but try to use the research to guess.
