The protagonist must travel far and wide in order to achieve their goals and save society. There are oftentimes conflicts, hurdles, or struggles that cause the journey to be prolonged and circuitous. Obstacles may even alter the protagonist's path forcing them to focus on their goals rather than succumbing to distractions.

This character demonstrates bravery and courage when they use their superhuman strength to overcome a difficult struggle in which they must save members of society from harm or evil. As the listener or reader observes the character's intelligence and wit they grow to admire the achievements and positive traits revered by society.

An epic poem is a lengthy narrative that tells a story in a formal and elevated style of lyrical feet and meter. The reason epic poetry is composed in verse is because it was original performed orally and the repetition of sounds made it easier to memorize. Epic poems usually take place so long ago that humans do not have a memory of the extraordinary events being described. These stories were told to entertain and teach the audience a lesson.

Homer was a poet of ancient Greek who was believed to live in the 8th Century BCE. He was believed to be born in Chios, but later moved to the coast of Ionia (modern day Turkey). He was known for creating two epic poems: Iliad and The Odessy. The Iliad was about the last year of the Trojan War, mainly focused on the Greek Warrior Achilles. While the Odessy was about Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who was on a ten year journey as he tried to return home. Both of these epic poems are very well known thousands of years later, and Homer is known as one of the best epic poem writers in the world.

He was believed to have lived around the 7th or 8th century BCE and was portrayed to be born in many different cities but Chios is the most commonly named. The name Homer originated from Homeros which was an ancient Greek name and is traditionally interpreted to mean hostage or pledge. He was believed to be a blind poet and there is a legend that was never proven that he used his other senses when writing The Odyssey or used song-like lyrics to write it.

The Iliad is an epic poem. This poem focuses on the last weeks in the Trojan war. It takes place in the 12th and 13th century. Its separated into 24 books because it is so long. It's an ancient Greek poem attributed to Homer which is the other. Greek warriors Achilles is its primary focus. The Iliad ends with the death of Hector, a prince and great warrior of Troy. It doesn't end with the send of the Trojan war and ends to the death of an enemy. The word Iliad is known for an ancient city in troy, it simply means "Song/poem in llion". This story is important because for the ancient Greeks this story reminded them of their history and added to their identity.

Gods and goddesses alike were encouraged to attend all except the goddess of discord, Eris. Erris showed up anyway with a golden apple to be awarded to the fairest. And the three goddeses hera aphrodite anAthenana all claimed it and fought over it as they all would do anything for that golden apple. But pairs picked Aphrodite as the winner after she bribed him that she promised love between Helen, the most beautiful mortal in the world,, to h.im Lat er,er after pairs visited Sparta to see Helen of Troy, they eloped shortly after. But an allied Greek force, which declared war on Troy for the recovery of Helen, who was promised to Menelaus and many of the Greek kings, her former suitors, promised to protect . So the Trojan war was all over love as pairs, and Helen was in love thanks to Aphrodite, but another man loved her and was promised her and did not enjoy his future wife in love with another.

During this journey he faces ruthless obstacles, this consisted of many mystical creatures and Poseidon's wrath. Through this journey he received help from the Greek gods and goddesses. Overall he spent ten years fighting in the Trojan War and he spent ten more trying to get home to his wife and son making him gone for two decades. When Odysseus finally returns he fights off suitors and rightfully reunites with his wife and son.
