Plot Overview

I, Robot is set in the year 2035 where Robots and humans coincide together. The story takes place in a futuristic Chicago. The Robots were built to assist humans. People are able to buy these robots and make them their servants. These Robots are able to live with humans by follow the three fundamental laws. The laws being "A Robot must not harm a human, a Robot must obey orders from humans, lastly a Robot can protect itself if it doesn't interfere with the first two laws.'' The movie revolves around a cop (Detective Spooner) who distrusts robots. When one day the founder of the company that manufactures these robots commits suicide. Det. Spooner got the case by a notification which was to be sent to him if he commited suicide. The founder (Alfred Lanning) knew about Spooners distrust with the robots. He knew that Spooner would be the person to find the flaws with the robots computer system. Also when investigating Dr. Lanning's death Det. Spooner found a robot that would be able to disobey the Three laws. The robot was created to be like a normal human to assist Spooner in Fixing the issues with the robots.

Det. Spooner is a Chicago Detective who is a cyborg. He became a cyborg when he got into a car accident with another vehicle on a bridge causing both cars to fall into the water and sink. When he was trapped he noticed there was a little girl in the other car. When a robot went to save them the robot only saved Det. Spooner disregarding the orders given by him. Therefore causing his distrust in robots and by saving him he's arm needed to be amputated. Which was later replaced with a Cyborg arm.

Main Character: Sonny

Sonny is a generation NS-5 robot. He's a different kinds of NS-5 robot. He was developed to be capable of human emotions. At first he's miss understood for the killing of Dr. Lanning but then they realize the importance of Sonny to saving the world.

The main example of Ai in the movie is Viki. Viki (Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence) is the robot company (USR) supercomputer. Viki is an interactive computer system for the USR building and assists with commands and security. Viki is also in control of the robots. Viki has an artificial voice and face making her seem as a normal person.

Cool Technology

One thing I found to be very interesting were the cars in the movie. All of the cars were self driving and worked together to prevent accidents. The car was also able to complete commands like a more advanced narrow Ai. I think a lot of companies are trying to move towards autonomous vehicles. Such as Tesla and Waymo. Another thing is that cars nowadays have built in Amazon Alexa, Siri and Google Ai.

Ethical Dilemmas

The ethical dilemma is that robots are not allowed and able to harm or kill humans. What happens is that robots turn against humans and start to kill them. To resolve this issue Sonny and Spooner have to take down the supercomputer (Viki).

Irony. I feel that there is a lot of irony in the movie. Its stated that "Robots can never kill or harm humans." after it's ironic because robots start to kill and harm people.

The Ai is apart of the society. The majority of people in this society have or communicate with a robot on the daily. The Robot AI are servants for the people and work jobs. They're what makes the society sustainable. I feel the attitude towards AI is very accepting. Although Det. Spooner is not a fan of these Robot which is what enables him to find out the flaw with them.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence is set some time in the 22nd Century. In the movie it shows that the effects of climate change have taken over world. With all the ice caps melted in a high sea level encapsulating over New York city, the movie focuses on a couple, Henry and Monica, whose son is in a paralyzed state and is kept frozen. Monica grieving the potential loss of their son, Henry purchases a robot capable of love, named David. David wants to be a real human so Monica could love him just as much as he does. When Martin comes back, the family agrees to abandoned David. After being abandoned, he found Gigolo Joe. They work together to find the blue fairy; being a reference to Pinocchio. David thought that if he found a blue fairy, it would turn him into a real boy, just like Pinocchio. They believe that the blue fairy is in New York. When they reach New York, they find the creator of David, Dr. Hobbie. He realises he's mass manufactured and not unique. Once they escape, they find the blue fairy under the water. For centuries, David prayed to the blue fairy to make him a real human. Aliens find him, centuries later, David gets to relive one last moment with Monica.

David is a robot, manufactured to be capable of love. He was mass manufactured by Dr. Hobbie. Unlike other robots, he almost seems like a real boy. David's main goal throughout the movie is to become a real boy so that Monica can love him just as much as he does.

Monica is a the wife of Henry. Together they have a son named Martin. For an unclear reason, Martin is in a critical state and have to be frozen. While grieving the potential loss of Martin, they go and buy David.

The artificial intelligence in this movie seems to be very advanced. Most of Robots in the movie being near human like. They've manufactured robots to be fully capable of love. The Robots in this society seem to be a necessity to humans. The A. I in this movie are near fully conscious and sophisticated enough to be near identical to a human. ALthough the A.I is very sophisticated it seems like information is not readily available in this society.

Cool Technology

The cool technology in this movie is the invention of the A.I robot. This robot has the ability to near identical the human, based on his actions and his feelings. They had manufactured the robots to be more sophisticated and longer lasting than humans.

Visual Aesthetic

The Visual Aesthetic is very futuristic. It takes place in Chicago in the future with a lot of futuristic concepts. Most of the buildings and public spaces have a very modern and pale colour to it. I feel like the futuristic environment aides the futuristic ideology of the movie. It helps build the narrivitive that the movie does not take place in this era but in a new era. It shows the progression of humanity and the development of technologies.

Personal Reflection

I feel that A.I. Artificial Intelligence is my favourite movie over I, Robot. I feel like it was better made. I, Robot had more of a children's movie plot, it didn't have a realistic logic to it. Whereas in A. I the movie had a more realistic logic, it was more emotional. I feel in A.I it was easier for me to sympitis with the characters rather than in I, Robot. The story gave you more of a background on the characters which aided the emotional connection between us and the characters. I feel like the A. I aided my perception. I like the story line. i feel like if in the future we are able to develop robots for the same purposes id be for them. I like how they're not really being used for an evil intend but for a purpose to help humans out emotionally. It gave me a concern that if we dont change our lifestyle and habits that we could end up in a world like A.I. It made me want to do more about climate change. Overall I feel the story line was far better and its far better of a movie than I, Robot than A. I.
