watchman can swing my lantern all night chasing the shadows, those are the benefits of my job. The speaker thinks these jobs are appealing because, the hawker could cry, "Bangles, crystal bangles!" There is nothing to hurry him (the hawker) on, there is no road he must take, no place he must go to, no time when he must come home. He thinks the hawker is cool because, he could spend his day in the road crying, "Bangles, crystal bangles!" The gardener could dig as long as he wants and no one has to tell him to stop digging. That's why the speaker likes a gardener as a job. Watchmen could walk on the streets all night chasing the shadows.
As an adult would see these jobs as getting paid and providing food, water and objects, because they are thinking of the money that they earn and sometimes they enjoy the experience of meeting new people.
