One of the best experiences I had learning something by way of active learning, is seeing one of my yoga teachers do the splits. This is a skill you cannot just be told about, but have to be shown and have to see in order to simply do. One of the worst experiences I've had with active learning is when my teacher tried to show us how to roll our R is spanish. I was able to take home and integrate the new experiences I learned in this context and take it home to reflect upon it. The worst experience I've had in the classroom with intentional learning is when I was given 15 minutes to learn the periodic table and then given a test on it that same day. For example, when students are in elementary school, we learn how to simply count to 100. When applying that knowledge authentically and in a real world context, we see that being able to count every day objects is an authentic counting method we can use everyday. The worst lesson I learned in this teaching context is that using algebra in an everyday context was useful. We literally had to communicate with one another in order to make a rope like structure with our bodies, in order to help one person climb into the tree. The worst time was when I was put in a group with someone who did not communicate well at all, and we had to do a research paper as a group.
