Motor Cortex

The motor cortex is responsible for completing voluntary movements. It has a big impact when it comes to sports. Ever since I was little, I was always in sports. I did gymnastics from the ages 3-13. I had to quit for money reasons. After that, I started playing softball. I currently play softball for both the school and for my travel team. But, when I'm playing with my travel team I feel the happiest. My favorite part of softball is the summer tournaments and the friendships I have made from this sport.. I love spending majority of my weekends travelling around Illinois and other states to play. The weather is nice and even when I have to wake up for the 7 am games, its still enjoyable. When i'm playing softball I feel great. Im thankful that I have a working motor cortex that lets me participate in my sport.

temporal lobe

The temporal lobe is responsible for hearing. Music and concerts are one of my favorite things. My favorite music artists are Pheobe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, Renee Rapp, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter. When I'm listening to music I feel happy. It can help calm me down. I love going on drives with my friends and blasting music. Music to me is very therapeutic. Im thankful that I have a working temporal lope allowing me to listen to my favorite music artists.

wernickes area

The Wernicke's area is responsible for helping you understand language. My friends have a big impact on my life. I am always around them. I try to spend as much time with them as I can. This part of my brain helps me understand my friends. Whether it's our inside jokes, phrases we say, or even just speaking English. Without this part of my brain functioning, I wouldn't be able to build those strong relationships.

hippocampus

The hippocampus is responsible for your long-term memory. I like to look at the past and think about all the happy moments I've experienced. I love looking at pictures of me and my younger sister and how our relationship has grown. I can remember those moments so vividly and it's fun to look back on. I love hearing the stories from my mom and thinking about the past. It will be helpful in college to think back to those specific moments and remember how happy I was. Thanks to my hippocampus, I have access to those memories.

hypothalamus

The hypothalamus is responsible for regulating your body temperature, your hunger, and your thirst. It helps you recognize when you are hungry or thirsty. My favorite foods are bread and goldfish. I love bread, I could eat it at any time of day with any meal. I also love the original goldfish. Not many people know about it but they're delicious. My favorite restaurant is Raising Canes. I love their chicken and fries, and especially their texas toast. I'm glad my hypothalamus can recognize when I'm hungry so I can enjoy some of my favorite foods.

Occipital Lobe

The Occipital Lobe is responsible for your vision. When I was in 2nd grade I needed to get glasses, I couldn't see very well, and now that I have them my vision is better. I love watching movies and TV shows. Especially Disney. Some of my favorites are Hercules, Princess and the Frog, and Boy Meets World. These films bring me joy. Sometimes they can help me relieve stress and I find them very comforting. Which is why I consider them my comfort films. Thanks to my occipital lobe, I can see and watch these films whenever I want.

reticular formation

The reticular formation controls your alertness and arousal. One thing about me many people do not expect is that I love rollercoasters. I love going to themeparks and riding as many rides as I can that day. I love the feeling of the thrill and rush that you get from riding them. This part of the brain controls how I feel when i'm riding them. I am alert in that moment and I feel alive.

cerebellum

The cerebellum controls your coordination. It helps you with daily functions like walking and sports. For me, I really love going on walks every night. When I get home from practice or school I check when the sun is going to set. My sister and I then go on a walk down our bike path and watch the sunset. We love going on walks and the pretty colors of the sky so it's a great experience. I'm happy that my cerebellum gives me the coordination skills I need so I can experience this.

dopamine

Dopamine is used to regulate emotions, attention, and learning. Its our reward and pleasure center. I am a big animal person. I love being around animals and taking care of them. My favorites are cats, penguins, and my bearded dragon. Whenever i'm stressed out or overwhelmed I usually go to the pet store and look at the cats or just lay on my bed with my bearded dragon. I find this very theraputetic and it helps me regulate my emotions.

seratonin

Seratonin regulates your mood. Sometimes when I have a lot going on I need to find an activity to calm me down. Something that helps me is reading. I love reading all kinds of books like romance, thrillers, mystery, etc. Reading helps me relive stress and feel calm. If i'm in a bad mood it can help cheer me up. I love hearing about the stories people make up and being in a different universe for those minutes that I am reading. I like to go to the library with my friend and pick out books for the other to read. We usually then go home and have reading marthons where we see how much of our book we can finish in a time that we pick. This tradition is special to me and something I look forward too. Reading is considered to be my seratonin.
