The Coral Triangle is located near the Western Pacific Ocean. The waters that are included in this reef is Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua, New Guinea, Timor Leste and Solomon Island. This Reef has to be one of the most complex considering it is made up of 600 different species of Coral. And to mention it is the home to 2,000 species of fish and ocean mammals.

Over 120 million people live in the Coral Triangle. Considering the Coral Reef has over 2,000 species of fish and ocean mammals, people can and do use the reef as a food source. A food source seem like a pretty obvious answer, but people also depend on the reef for protection from storms.

Scientist show that without action on climate change, coral reefs in the Coral Triangle will disappear by 2100, the ability to feed people will decline by 80%. Extractive industries such as oil and gas can pollute the oceans/reef. Mine tailings can smother fragile ecosystems such as reefs, killing marine wildlife. The coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds that are home to the Coral Triangle's are threatened by direct human impacts. The consequences of climate change could make things even worse for wildlife that depend directly on healthy ecosystems.

Fish is taken out of the the Coral Triangle faster than stocks can supply. If the current level of fishing continues, these stocks will collapse. Eventually that will result in loss of revenue and much greater food security in some parts of the world. WWF is working with industries to stop fisheries and address this problem.
