<title>AREQUIPA CARNIVALCarnivals are artistic expressions that occur in popular culture with dances and songs typical of each region of our Peru. In Arequipa they perform to the beat of the huayno and in troupes in groups formed by several couples dressed in mestizo costumes from the South. Youthful, cheerful and marriageable dance, performed mainly by young single men.The Arequipa carnival party is celebrated in February and March, it is danced in comparsas made up of young single people who to the sound of happy melodies dance animatedly without stopping, going through squares and streets, engaged in a competition to challenge the residence of sex opposite. In the middle of this parade there is also a competition between neighborhoods to see which one celebrates with the greatest fury and joy.In these dances, some ether jokes were used, which released very pleasant perfumed waters. They were used mainly for the Central day, Sunday, when there was also the Great Carnival Corso. It was also played with eggs. Days before the carnival, people pierced the eggshells to remove the contents and save the shell. They filled the shell with aniline and on Carnival day they threw them at the people. Something very typical in Arequipa are the &quot;matacholas&quot; that are still used today. They were used by boys and girls. They were prepared with a nylon stocking to which colored powders were placed, forming like a ball. It was like a kind of slingshot. All the paisanitas that passed by the street were completely powdered with this peculiar weapon.</title>
