Holden's loneliness has been getting worse and worse as the book goes on, and he goes to his old teacher's house for the hope of being happy instead of being sad all the time. Later that night, as soon as Holden realizes Mr. Antolini is stroking his hair, that hope of happiness and trust is immediately broken. The artist states that no one knew him or her, and that made him or her feel like he or she didn't matter to anybody. That trust in how he or she wants to live is how that person is okay with his or her self, and therefore takes pride in what he or she does every single day. To attain this happiness, one must be comfortable with what his or her goal for life is and how he or she wants to live it. Unless it's something that will harm others and/or him or her self, then the opinions of others should not at all judge what that life goal is. Instead of judging and making the person feel down about him or her self, others should provide and maintain support for him or her in order to ensure that he or she attains happiness in the way that he or she wants.
