Math anxiety comes from a fixed mindset that hasn't been shown how to believe in themselves and unlocking their potential. Students in our school have noticed this mentality and can feel overwhelmed. However, things can change. According to Improving Students' Learning article, practice test in math related classes have shown to benefit the students. The more the students practice on what they are unclear about, the better their performance increases. Students are able to fully grasp the information shown to them!

I learned that when students are taught to have a growth mindset from a young age, they are m ore likely to experience less anxiety when it comes to math. Students that are given the correct support systems and encouragement are more likely to succeed in math and maybe even enjoy it. I also learned that CI had a high percentage in students suffering from math anxiety, with about 20% more than the average.

Another thing was that unfortunately, students some students werent given the right tools when it came to learning math. this caused them to feel insecure and not wanting to try.
I was one of the kids who grew up feeling like math wasn't for me. I unfortunately was made feel like I was stupid when it came to understanding math, and this discouraged me from wanting to participate in class. I liked math and working with numbers, but because I was slower, my old teacher told me that it wasnt for me. I was told not to use my fingers, or not to use shortcuts, I had to do it their way or otherwise I was wrong. It wasnt until I was put in a math support program and my other teacher was much more supportive. She told me that it was okay to use any other form that helped me as long as it helped me understand, the following year, I was placed in an intermediate math class instead of the lower classes, and was doing very well in my class. That teacher that supported me, helped me over come my fixed mindset on "math isnt for me" and helped me realize that math is so much fun and there are so many different ways of understanding it.
So, I am happy to see that now, instructors are starting to become more aware of math anxiety and they are trying to do something about it!

When students who tend to think that they are not good at math or see as a challenge that they are not able to overcome, these students are the type of students who have a fixed mindset, meaning they are not open to the idea of mathematics. These students or people tend to give up when they see a challenging topic on mathematics and causes them anxiety when someone brings up the idea of Mathematics. These students also tend to have started with a bad experience with Mathematics, which then alters their perspective of Mathematics with Math. As for the students who have a growth mindset, these students see a challenge in Mathematics and they think of this challenge as an opportunity to learn. Where they have made mistakes, they are open to learn and understand the content that is being taught.
