I was born and raised in America so it is a huge part of who I am. I have never left this country -though I would like to someday!- and I know being American plays a big part in how I view and interact with the world. Other countries are almost alien to me in how they are governed and how the people live their day to day lives. As part of being an American, specifically, a white American woman, I am granted a freedom like never seen generations prior. I expect my rights to remain unviolated and protected and would be caught surprised or frustrated if I am stopped. Though I do try to keep my entitlement in check, I understand not everyone is as fortunate and there is often reasoning behind why a small of my freedoms were taken away. Such as with quarantine.

I have lived 95% of my life in Utah and while I don't consider myself the 'average person' for this state it still absolutely has shaped my world. One of the first things that people think of when they think Utah is religion. Which make sense, Utah was founded on religion and there is a huge community of followers of the LDS Church here. I am atheist and uninterested in participating in any church run activities but most of my family and friends are devout followers. I don't judge them for that, but it does affect how they communicate and how they perceive the world, which in turn shapes my society and my experience in Utah. It is hard to imagine that other states aren't so church-oriented because that's all I've ever known. People here are friendly, outgoing, and eager to make the community a better place.

I am an artist and have doodled and drawn for as long as I can remember. As a child I was surrounded by colorful cartoons and loved picture books. These medias along with my ever-supportive parents began me on this path where even now I still surround myself with artistic inspiration. On my social media I almost exclusively follow other artists and designers and I am always on the lookout for 'behind the scenes' or documentaries that cover creative processes. I love designing and I especially love illustration and building new and beautiful fantastical ideas from my head. As I've taken more and more courses in the arts, I have noticed myself judging anything and everything not by how it is supposed to be seen by the average viewer, but instead I judge it by it's use of art theories. This includes color choices and where the subject is placed and much more. This applies to anything from advertisements to city architecture. I love seeing the world through artistic lenses.
One of my specific favorite things to do is to design fantastical creatures and/or hybrids much like Dina Norlund does.

Although sometimes a frowned upon past-time I cannot deny that I am an avid gamer. My free time is nearly always spent in front of a computer playing games. I own a wide variety of games that I enjoy on a regular basis ranging from single player to multiplayer and themes from sci-fi, dystopian, to just straight up wild fantasy. Games are the biggest source of my artistic inspiration and have led to me creating an incredible amount of fond memories and new friends. Playing video games also saved me from the stress of quarantine and self-isolation and has been my favorite talking subject for a little while now.

Not many know but I absolutely love watching dance performances. Even though I have two left feet, I just can't get enough of watching the beautiful choreography and seeing the amount of passion that went into to just come alive on stage. I think about the incredible amount of hours a group must've spent designing and perfecting just a single dance and I'm blown away. Dances of all genres and skill levels is just breath-taking to me and and encourages me to be more free and creative. The steps of a dance are choreographed and practiced again and again and again, but it looks so natural and carefree that I can only hope to replicate that in my art.
At first I mostly watched ballet-type dances but lately I've really loved choreographies like shown in this video!

This is a big one for me. It took me quite a while to learn who I am while also understanding that my perception of myself and my orientation is ever-changing and may not last- and thats okay. GLSN and other LGBTQ+ groups have really helped me grow. Not only was I able to express myself confidently and freely, but so were other people. I was able to help other people feel safe and welcomed as they explored themselves and took a chance to express themselves to others like them. I am forever grateful for the people in my life who have supported myself and others during times that have been a little scary. Everyone from my amazing family to the kind-hearted folks at high-school clubs. I've never felt more confident in myself and my orientation and I do everything I can to understand others and make them comfortable too.
