Paragraph:

In Gandhi’s speech he uses different rhetorical features, and one of them is an example: ‘If a man holds me by the neck and wants to drown me, may I not struggle to free myself directly?’
He uses the example to describe India’s situation, where India is the one being held by the neck by Britain, and India’s freedom isn’t looked upon as something they have the right to just take. The example makes is clear how unfair of a situation India stands in.
The rhetorical feature is logos, because it speaks to our rationality and logic. Of course they should be allowed to free themselves.
The example helps his speech a lot, it makes his point very clear and it is strategically placed in the end of the speech, which then makes sure everyone understood the message.

Line 30-31 page 1: "They will be dealing a mortal blow to China and to Russia if they oppose the freedom of non-violent India which is pleading with bended knees"

He personifies India in favor of making his point more clear. By mentioning India as a human, he concretizing something abstract - a country. When he says that India is "pleading with bended knees", we, the readers, can relate to how India feels. This creates pathos because of the many different feelings that we get when he writes about the way she feels. It helps the writer because we can sympathize with her - India. We don't just think about her as a country - one out of many. He success in giving India more focus rather than other countries.
