She has long braided hair with many colourful pearls in it. Fatou is tall and rather large, she also likes eating a lot but her favourite foods are biscuits, cakes, chocolate and sweets. She is quite a sad person because everybody at school is laughing and teasing her about her size. Fatou hasn’t got any friends, her only real friend is Mamadou, her brother.

Her parents are also very sad to see her so unhappy. Christmas is coming and to bring a bit of joy at home they decide to buy a fake Christmas tree and ornaments at Orca, the big multi storey Senegalese supermarket. All together they choose red and gold baubles, some golden stars, some lights and some white tinsels. Fatou chooses a beautiful silver star that will go on top of the tree. 

The family goes home and decorates the house with their beautiful Christmas tree, they hang a Christmas wreath on the door, and they put the children’s stockings at the end of their beds. Fatou is happy, she is smiling.

Fatou would like to put her silver star at the top of the tree. She climbs on a ladder to reach the very tip of it. When she reaches and wants to fit her star she loses her balance and …… falls!

She is lying on the floor, not moving. She is unconscious; she is in a deep deep sleep.

She opens her eyes and discovers that she is lying on a soft bed in a baobab tree. Many red and white candy canes decorate the room, she reaches for them but cannot grab them. Golden stars sparkle over the ceiling, baubles and tinsels float all over the place. She can hear soft singing. Tiny little green and white elves are humming Christmas carols
