This green light reminds Gatsby every night that there is still hope they'll run into each other again one day because she is still in that house across the lake.

This chapter begins in 1922 right after WWI when entertainment booms. The main idea of this chapter is to start to introduce Nick Carraway and his life. It is also to give an idea about what the setting and mood of this story is going to be. By introducing Daisy, Nick’s cousin and the hulking Tom, her wife. it foreshadows many events that are about to take place as the story goes on especially, when tom gets a phone call and Jordan says to Nick, “Tom’s got some woman in New York.”

It’s very hot outside, foreshadowing the amount of tension and drama that is soon to come. This chapter is where the climax is going to begin. When Tom, Jordan, Daisy, Nick, and Gatsby go to town it is where the competition heats up between Tom and Gatsby. This is as if they are both competing for Daisy’s love.

We now start to find out more about Gatsby’s palace and the parties he holds every weekend. We don't know much about him at all and that no one has actually ever met him. We also learn that nobody has actually gotten a personal invitation to any of Gatsby’s parties like Nick did. After being at the party for some time Nick still hadn’t met Gatsby and it was making him very anxious. But after running into a butler serving drinks, he realized it was Gatsby. He introduced himself and started to describe his everyday life. Through this Nick realized he had a very strong habit of calling Nick “old sport”. He then asked to talk to Jordan alone. After an hour she came back and said that she found out extraordinary news but swore she wouldn’t tell anyone. This is where Gatsby gets even more mysterious. He only told Nick about his everyday life but, he seemed to have told Jordan much more.
