This collage shows my progress in the beginning of Art 2. On the left side, my ability started with pencil only techniques for shading and density, whereas on the right I started to incorporate colors with appropriate and suiting forms of shading. I also developed my smart goals of drawing more realistic peoples faces which improved by lookings at more peoples faces, observing closely on their faces.

What I learned and practiced about oil pastels and mixed media was how you can use different colors, some you would never imagine together, and use them to create beautiful shades in intensity and depth. I also learned new ways of using tools like watercolors, pastels, and paint brushes.

I chose to create an image of my childhood home with the oil pastel techniques of scumbling, and crafito. The idea behind this image is to put one of my childhood memories to life, when I was younger I would love to play in my backyard on my swing. Growing up in southern California I was not familiar with compromising my playtime because of weather, so one day when rain suddenly occurred, I demanded to still play outside against my mother's wishes. She taught me laying outside in the conditions was unsafe, as well and she didn't want to deal with muddy footprint when I came back inside. Of course I said I would do neither, her second concern came true, putting this funny scene to life. I used scumbling techniques to create the subject of my muddy footprints traveling through my house.

I used this assignment to do a freestyle artwork, which strayed off from the original inspiration for this project. However I ha a goal of bettering my skills with drawing animals, and because of my common interest with cats, as I have 2 cats myself, I was inspired to practice a cat's mural. I applied the use of shading to emphasize the tabby breed's unique coat. What I've learned from this project was that the eyes are an existential part of the cats face when drawing, and need to be larder than you would expect to gives the cats face a friendly harmony.

This semester I really enjoyed really being hands on when learning new techniques, and having a lot of creative freedom while learning them. I liked the themes of my projects as well and learned lots of new practices like shading and technical techniques to better myself as the artist. For Q2, I would like to strengthen my realisticness because I still feel as if my art struggles with realism, and is still in a cartoon like category.
