Hi All....I've taken several classes on Carla's website and loved every one of them so I'm super excited to dive back into drawing as I tend to slack off consistent practice on something so bloody basic. My husband has even signed up! (he draws better than I do, has already started practicing days ago....!)
Very grateful for the option of padlet - never heard of it before but anything is better than demon FB.
I live in Albany, Oregon.

I love drawing birds. This approach I will add to the way I usually use. I made an other study on of a still life. I find the true horizontal and vertical lines very helpful, not easy though.

Nancy. I found the shape on the left to be easier, I think because it's simpler. It was more difficult on the right for me to stay focused on shape rather than "bird". I think I got the "UPS box" concept a little better this time.

Hello. Could you offer a list of your preferred drawing supplies? What type of paper you prefer, pencils...?

Anita I so enjoy watching you draw and talk about drawing, seeing shapes, negative space and today's lesson on volume and shape. I enjoy watching you more than actually doing it....but once I start doing it I like it. Go figure.

Jennifer O. I am catching up on posting. Finally I can upload without the image going sideways. :) Thrilled to be in this class and in the Padlet forum. These are half wilted hyacinth orchids that started to spontaneously grown in my yard this spring. I have done exercises in blind contour before, but things are clicking with me better this time. I love that word “honesty.” Yes, nothing can be wrong or untrue in this exercise. Thank you, Anita. Building up my stamina for slowing down and resisting impatience. 15 minutes.

Lesson 4 spheres. Top is graphite, bottom is black Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor, a favorite colored pencil. I am happy with how these forms look when I squint at them, and enjoy further refining, such as eliminating some striping effect. I need to work on where the shadow will “start” to the bottom right of each sphere. Drawing on a lunch break, so left the charcoal at home today. :) Practice.

This little wooden elephant has a lot of spheres I could study and practice on. It was from photo. I used tinted charcoal (Derwent, Forest Pine) on Ingress paper. I think graphite gives me more control.

I realized after starting I should have used a solid vase instead of glass!
Also, bright morning sun made such sharp edges.

I felt like you had an intimate relationship with those flowers! This is one of my favorite house plants. I love how some leaves stand straight up and others gently bend and noodle their way onto the table. So I thought I’d like to get to know it better. I plan to keep on drawing her.

These lesson days have gone by so fast. Spending time in a kind of spiral, working to integrate them together. This morning I was at the pond near my home, using modified blind contour to gather evidence over many pages. For years, I thought of (modified) blind contour as a stepping stone to something else, a way to see and draw, develop hand-eye coordination, obviously good for warming up. But more than that, I’ve found it to be the best way to feel with the hand and the heart. A chance to lose the fear of something looking “right,” or “closer to good”— instead, it is a way to get the closest to the truth that you can ever be. And if blind contour in public feels a little bit weird, I tell myself how cool it would be if everyone else was doing the same thing!

Thank you so much Anita for making this workshop! It has made me rethink my way of drawing. This is the initial stage of my second date with my elephants. I took the photo before I went in with more lines. Somehow lines make me feel safe. I felt it didn't described enough without lines... I Guess I'll have to make some new dates with these little guys and explore and challenge my habit of drawing lines.
