It is best to also support their back end at the same time to avoid strain on the animal. This is not painful for the ferret as they will often drag each other around using their scruff when play fighting.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The scruff is the loose bunch of skin at the back of the ferret's neck, right below it's head.&nbsp;<br>Grip the scruff with your thumb and index finger, and pull up slightly, just enough to cause the ferret to stop moving.<br>You should never lift a ferret purely by it's scruff - it's very painful and you can damage its skin.&nbsp;<br>After gripping the scruff, slide your hand under the ferret to support its body and lift it off the ground.&nbsp;<br>Keep hold of the scruff whilst its being held - this will stop it squirming.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
