Destruction of Carthage

In 146 bce the Romans attacked Carthage, seeking revenge for past wars and the rich farmland surrounding the city. Within seven days, of the 112,000 people present in the city, 62,000 were killed, and 50,000 more were enslaved. Only 17,000 of the 40,000 Romans present were killed. The defeat was total, and absolutely no evidence of their civilization remained, including spreading tons and tons of salt over the city to prevent their crops from growing and leaving evidence of their existance.

In 1971 after their separation after independence from Britain in 1947. East Pakistan's population was primarily made up of Bengali people, who weren't happy to be treated in the marginalized way that they were. In 1970, with lots of local support, Bengali nationalists won the democratic election but West Pakistani Elites didn't want to give up their power, and despite their rival's peaceful strikes, they retaliated. On March 25, 1971 the first massacre occurred in the capitol, Dhaka. Soon the massacring spread to Bangladesh, where the army worked through a pre-made list of targets. They raped women and girls, killed men and boys and believed it was all justified because they were killing off a "racially inferior" population. To this day justice for the genocide has not yet been served.

In 1992, after 40 years under the communist Yugoslavia government and as communism fell Slovenia and Croatia declared independence. This resulted in violence and war between them and Serbia. Ethnic tensions soon followed, and when Bosnia tried to leave Slobodan Miloševic led Serbia to invade Bosnia in order to "free" Serbian Orthodox Christians living there. Serbia set out to remove all Bosnian Muslims. They were sent to concentration camps where they were raped, starved, abused, and murdered. In 1993 the UN attempted to protect Muslim territories; by July 1995 Serbia committed the greatest massacre since WW2. It resulted in 8,000 men being slaughtered, and 23,000 others being put on buses and driven to Muslim territory. Not a single shot was fired by the UN.
