Come up with one (1) action research project that you would like to see yourself or as a table wanting to initiate given your general or special education subject matter and the types of students and their needs they would have.

Communicate your action research using the technical, contextual and critical components of praxis.

Completing drawings with ESL students to gain understanding. For example, we would ask them "What does it look like when you're in math" and they would complete research and draw what it would like them depicting themselves in the math classroom. Allows them to communicate both expectations and their language.

Problem: differentiation in classroom with teacher
look at literature for research/defining terms
understand conceptually the problem (What is differentiation?)
contextualizing it to a specific student- what do they need?
doing some observations and self-reflecting over fears, roadblocks, questions we have

action items: try something new, write a new lesson that really implements differentiation that account for the IEP differentiation goals that the student has to meet IEP goals in general (social, emotional, etc.)

not substitute the ways your student learns but adds to or reinforces

the aha moment: continue to reflect, have self compassion for how we're differentiating, take it as continuously learning who the student is (maybe we need to have a better relationship with them to differentiate)

will increase knowledge and comfort level with differentiation and with student

Student who has been through a trauma is having behavioral outbursts during independent work time. Students are mandated by law (LRE) to be included in the general educations setting, so it is our job to accommodate to their needs. A team would be created in order to discuss how to best support these students (parents, principal, gen ed teacher, special ed teacher, student if comfortable). A positive discussion would be had about different interventions that the general educator could use in order to diminish these behaviors in order for the student to be successfully academically, socially, and emotionally. We would also be concerned about an imbalance of power if it was suggested that the student was pulled out as the student would feel sidelined and demoralized.

A problem we focused on is people not using person-first language, but rather referring to people as their actual disability. The students involved would be all students with disabilities. Research would be conducted through surveys throughout the school. If more data is needed, the researcher could continue on to the actual community. These surveys would consist of asking questions about how people refer to others with disabilities. The researcher would be a special education teacher who works with both the general and special education students. To move towards solving the problem, the first and biggest step would be to educate all people. This would include informational lectures and even signs. It would even be helpful to include some people with disabilities to speak for themselves during these lectures.
