Active and Inactive Entities:
Active ones contribute to the story whereas inactive ones are the ones that wouldn't change the meaning or even be noticed if they were to be removed from the comic.


Types of Panels:

Macro: A panel that concludes of multiple active entities.

Mono: A panel that includes a single active entity.

Micro: A panel that includes a single part of an active entity, like a head or a limb.

Amorphic Panel: Consists of no active entity.



Types of Shots:

Long: Shows the subject and the surroundings.

Full: Focuses more on the subject and less on the surroundings.

Medium: Shows the subject from the waist up.

Medium Close: The subject from the chest up.

Close Up: Shows the shoulders and the head of the subject.

Extreme Close Up: Shows a part of the subject that is always less than the whole head.



Types of Panel Transitions:

Character Change: Change of characters between panels. A partial change is changing some of the characters and a full one is changing all of them.

Spatial Location Change: A partial location change consists of a similar but different place, for example the same house but different rooms. Full spatial change is that the location changes completely.

Time Change: It is possible for the time to not change between panels if both of them are happening simultaneously.



Multimodality:

Semantic Weight: References the texts ratio of text to image. More textual weight means "verbal-" panel. If it has more visual content, it is a "visual-" panel. If both are present it is called a "co-" panel.

Grammatical Construction: When a panel only uses image or text, it is an "-autonomous" panel. If both modalities are used and they both have grammar, it is an "-assertive" panel.
