Each country has it's own plan aimed at the people who live in their country. This is in line with the individual ideology of each country. For Wales this means the plan is written in Welsh. The plan supports the young person in their education system.

Negatives
The terminology, pro forma used in each country is different and may not translate well across borders. This can lead to misinterpretation. If a young person moves from one country to another then the plan will essentially be worthless and will need to be re written.

Negative: Is the different use of terminology within the different countries e.g. SEN, ALN and ASN. As previously stated this can lead to misinterpretation of the terminology due to their similarities but also differing factors which create the definitions.
Also it states - specifically in Scotland - that there has been an increase due to the range of young people with ASN becoming broader - so are the four categories which support the term ASN too broad?

Positive: All the countries have created schemes which help identify children and young people with SEN/D which in turn allows the child or young person to receive the support which they need - which they, their families and local services all have voice in.

Positive: All countries have created their own plans for SEN children, giving them ways to support children and young people with SEN/D
Negative: Different terms of special educational needs such as ASN and ALN, with only Northern Ireland and England having similar policies. What will happen if a child moves from Scotland to England and is under a new system? How will the parents be able to adjust? Also the Scotland policy has become to broad and not comprehensive enough, resulting in an increase that may not account for all cases

Positives:
All countries have updated their policies relatively recently showing they understand that the systems need reviewing and problems have been identified and rectified within the new policies.
Negatives:
There is a lack of consistency of both terms and sometimes approaches to supporting children with SEN/D across the UK. Also posing a problem of if children move between countries during their education.
