Discipline: Environment
Summary: An Iranian oil tanker was sunk in the East China Sea, and the light crude it carried have already polluted 101 square kilometers. Although the ship carried condensate oil which can be burned and evaporated in the air, there were still damages to the marine system. There are damages that we can't put in numbers such as the impact on fish and birds, according to Matz-Luck. In the future, there will be more strict rules about marine safety as long as cargos exist, according to Johnston.

Response: It is always sad that something like this happened in our planet, especially it was happened on East China Sea. I am surprised that some ship owners would do such thing to avoid regulations. I hope a better regulation will come sooner.

DQs
1) What would you do if it was your ship and you realized the fire?
2) What rules do you expect from the new regulations?
3) What else impacts do you think this incident could bring?

The blind men want to learn what kind of animal the elephant is by touching it together. However, they argued for the looking of the elephant for a long time but still cannot to reach an agreement since they touched different parts.
Response:
Last two weeks, we have already read two news about the environment and social problems. So, I choose this story since it is funny and introspective. Clearly, the author's main idea is to remind readers do not look at things from a single point of view just like the blind men did. Sometimes, we thought ourselves as the embodiment of wisdom and laugh at others who holds different opinions. However, every coins has two sides. Just like the Shakespeare said, "There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes." We do need to learn to see the issue from a different perspective.
D&Q：
1, Should people believe themselves and refuse the advice from others all the time? This is a big tale which can bring us into deep thinking. Do you believe what you see? In the modern society, science and technology are so developed. Everything can be what you would like to see by technology. Therefore, we need extra attention than before to distinguish between right and wrong. Just like what we read about H&M, if we can think deeply about how many products they made in a short period, we can easily discover that they are actually harm the environment which is seriously bad. This article use attractive details to cause the audience not be foolish about the surface of everything. Act fair to every men who you don't really know. Be sober about things that you experience, especially when you make decisions.

He claimed that most terrorists

are cowards that have no guts to walk into a school if 20% of the teachers have guns. However, Randi, the head of the American Federation of Teachers totally disagreed since he thought the teachers' responsibilities are teaching instead of going up against an AR-15. But Trump still believed that the Gun-free zones, meanwhile, are appealing to criminals.
Response:
To be honest, I am a definitely guns lover. But in this question, I really think make the schools become the gun zones is a good idea for two reasons. Firstly, it is well known many adolescents are impulsive. Sometimes they might argue with classmates or even with teachers since they are rebel. But no matter how they argued, few of them will be in danger of life. However, if the gun appears somewhere at school, everything is different. It is horrible to image the result if someone lose temper with the gun at school. Secondly, most terrorists are desperadoes who careless about their own lives actually. So I don't think they will be afraid even though some teachers might have the gun.
D&Q:
1, What is your opinion on this question.
2, Can you come up with more effective ways to solve this question?
3, If your are still in high school that become a gun area, what change might happened in your daily life?

First of all, if a classroom is breached, i don't think the teacher would have time to take out the gun, because the terrorists usually hold the teacher first. Moreover, if a teacher had a gun, it would simply increase the chance of a school shooting. Maybe the teacher had serious mental problems plus anger issues. He would point his gun to his students. Or maybe one smart student who was cruised about the gun stole the gun and created an accident. This would not help to protect the school at all. Why would we use the bonuses in a better way, such as building a better environment for students. Having a good environment is the most important thing.
D&Q:
2. His wife, Mary, thought cloning dog is unethical and unnatural, and people should not "producing aniamals with screwed up genes." However, there were many cases proving that cloned animals lived even better than normal ones such as the sheep Dolly, the dog Snuppy. They both died at normal age. On the contrary, we normally see those purebred pets have all kinds of problems such as purebred French bulldog because they even have trouble eating and walking. And Doctor expressed his opinion. He believed that we shouldn't impose our values on other people. If you don't like it, then don't do it.

Response
I agree with Doctor Hal Herzog's opinion. I don't see anything wrong with cloned animals. If we cloning could make their life better, why shouldn't we do that. Take the purebred French bulldog as an example, their life is painful, and their genes have all kinds of problems. And the sheep Dolly, although there were many negative news about it, but most of them were proved fake. And the cloned sheep from the same line as Dolly even lived to age of 8, and that is equivalent age 70 in human. So I think we shouldn't judge it differently.

DQs:
1. What is your opinion on cloning animals?
2. If there is a purebred dog with inborn problems and a mixed bred dog with healthy body, which one would you choose to pet? Why?
3. Even though he claimed that the cloned pets such as Dolly and Snuppy would not have any physical problems, but I really want to discuss about the psychical problem. However, there is no doubt that the pet are not foolish. He would know the truth that he is just the fake of another life soon or later. It means that his whole life will under others shadow. On May 15th 2015, a federal jury condemned Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death for his role; however, one of the victims' parents did want the government seek the death penalty against the murderer. The research by University of Minnesotta sociology-anthropology professor Scott Vollum and colleagues found death penalty cannot bring any happiness to the victim's family. However, what it really brings are feelings of emptiness, loss and even another set of victims. A 2012 Marquette University Law School study showed that give the murderer a life sentence can bring more peace to victims' family.
Response
In my perspective, no one in this world has the right to take another persons life. Not only that but there have been many cases where an innocent person has been executed over a crime they did not even commit. When we killed an innocent person, don't we become a murderer, either? I think it is ridiculous and horrible that we kill someone in the name of Justice. Moreover, not all killers are psychopaths who kill for no reason, so they deserve a second chance. We know that every man is a fool sometimes, they need a second chance to correct it. How could we just disempower them and end their lives?

D&Q
1. Should there be a death penalty?
2. Do you think victims' family would be happy after the murderer is dead?
3. What are the benefits of abolishing the death penalty?

In my opinion, the death penalty is an essential part to keep the society stable and peaceful. As the Chinese old proverb said, " a life for a life." It is not about whether victims's families are happy or not, it's about the life and law. The crime cost will decline if the death penalty is cancelled which will absolutely cause some terrible results. Besides, I used to watch some videos about the brutal murder process. They are definitely should pay the cost of lives due to their inhumanity.
D&Q:
1, Just as I wrote in response, the death penalty is indispensable in order to keep the society stable and peaceful.
2, Obviously, no matter what the murderer going to be, the victims' families won't be happy since they lose the kinsfolk forever.
