USA experiences difficulties with Spain and Britain, and Spain closed trade in the Mississippi. Basically the US did not receive respect from foreign governments. America had no leverage international for power.   Propaganda was sent out to make the frontier seem wonderful or magical. Many Native Americans "became refugees" due to settlers moving further west (eventually moving into Spanish territory). This led to the frontier becoming a "dark and bloody ground."
The nation received a huge debt due to valueless money, the USA losing Britain(trade), etc.
