The slush stuck to my boots like dog hair on a hooded sweater. It was so cold and wet, soaking into my supposedly waterproof boots and into my socks, making my feet cold and miserable. I let out a shaky grunt as I shivered and sniffled my way across the drive. I just wanna go inside and have the sweet, tingly feeling of sitting by a fire and watching my feet return to it's normal color

There was no warmth felt alone that was so comforting to her than the warmth of a frozen day.

The air nipped at her pale skin, bundled in scarves and mittens and layers of clothing collected from birthdays and Yules over the past several- decades? Centuries? Her short, lithe legs kicked off the porch swing, barely touching the wooden steps of the Pantheon, an extravagant name for a glorified apartment being of teenage gods.

The days were tedious. They were boring. Seated here on the old grandma-floral couch cover, the aluminum screech as it swung, that normalcy felt... welcome. Like snow angels. Like warm Earl Grey before job hunting and coming home to the full house of her friends. It was frozen, icy, streets and steps coated in slush, but unlike that godforsaken planet she spent six years of her early adult life on, there was sun. There was the sun of every pleasant conversation over breakfast, the sun of every movie night on the living room seat, the sun of the love of her life's little smile at the teeniest shows of affection- because even those small ones were so rare.

That sunny, snowy, warm-and-cool feeling of peace.

I never wanted to step away from the warm heat of the fireplace but, I was forced to by my cousin. I was convinced t go sledding. Then I had slipped of the sled into the pit of snow that had sat on the side of the hill. I could feel that horrifying sensation of my face going numb from the snow. I was the wishing I had never left the couch.

I stepped out, feeling a whoosh of freezing air in front of me with our toasty warm house behind me. I grit my teeth as I step out, from the cold, crisp air. Then it happens, that bare maple tree in our whitened front yard, as if intentionally, breaks a branch, and snow tumbles over my already cold-as-ice body. I fall to my frozen knee caps.
