The woman took very slow little sips, then carefully set the mug back on the table with a clink. She pulled up the sleeve of her black coat to reveal a silver watch. The time read 11:59. The woman drank one last sip of her coffee, set the mug down, grabbed her black leather briefcase beside her, and slithered out of the booth. She stood up, adjusted her dress, pushed open the cozy diner door, and set out into the December London fog.

An unbelievable amount of mice, fish, rats and birds are being tested on. Animal testing has led us to valuable information we know today. But, is it worth the cost of an animal or human’s life? Animal testing is not ethical because animal research is inaccurate, there is new precise technology, and animal testing is cruel.

Isabel blamed Lady Seymour who didn’t end up buying her. “‘Twas Lady Seymour who did it. Her with her begging forgiveness for not buying me and telling me I’d have been a good slave for her” (pg. 268). Isabel felt that all she had worked for was gone. She fought so hard for freedom, and when she found out Lady Seymour was going to buy her, she lost hope. However, Isabel kept fighting for freedom. A similar event happened previously in the story when Jenny wanted to buy Isabel and Ruth. “Jenny set the kettle on the table, stood straight, and wiped her palms on her skirt. ‘I want them two girls. I need the help. We’ll pay cash’” (pg. 22). Although Jenny never bought the girls, this was one example of how the events that happened in chapter 40 echoed previous events. Isabel was already given hope once when Jenny offered to buy her. All of these events just pushed Isabel to fight harder.
