the author explains how being reliant on other people is what makes you fail. he says if you can be self reliant you can be very successful. nowadays younger adults and kids seem to have a problem with this. they care too much about there friends or how popular they are. they don't realize only you can make yourself successful. as you can see the author likes to express self reliance.

what would i do if i had to leave for whatever reason. I would say goodbye face with all my friends and family individually. I would leave without notice but i would say goodbye. i don't think i could just leave with a burden that big on my back. i would leave behind most of my belongings so i have just memories to remember. i would bring a camera and food. if i were to leave i would have to be in the wilderness.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer”

this symbolizes the people you keep close. not you family but friends. you may find people that you like but when you get to know them they might have difference or flaws that you aren't comfortable with. that is the beat of the drum. you could be at a steady beat but your group of acquaintances may be going at a fast, crazy beat. since you cant keep up you'll leave them and find people with the same rhythm. but if you try to stay with the Friends who you don't fit in with your not being yourself.

what event changed your life. think of the story "the road not taken"

an event that changed my life was when i abandoned my friends because i didn't fit in with them. in 8th grade i didn't like the way they acted or treated people so i sat home and relied on myself instead of hanging out with them. i eventually found new friends and was having so much fun. years later my old friends who i had barely talked to stared to re appear in my life. but what i didn't know is that when i stopped being there friend they all realized how mean and ignorant they were. so 2 years later when they came back into my life they were completely different. and i was astonished. i believe this relates to "the road not taken" because i was heading with the wrong people and i thought and said hey, maybe im not with the right people and need to switch lanes. as you can see this was an event that changed my life.

i believe that the movie "Straight out of Compton" has transcendental ideas. it explores the segregation in the 1900's and how they were confident. people of color were portrayed as "different" and so they would revolt against things that shouldn't be decided by color. such examples as water fountains, bathrooms, where you ate, where you worked(if you worked). these all made them think of how only they can make them self successful and this set in. the 5 colored men in this film used their first amendment right to make music and disrespect the authorities at the time. this relates to confidence and self reliance in today's society. they felt society was unfair so they made a legal movement that would have the nation in an uproar to stop segregation. as you can see these transcendental thoughts really made america think about what they were doing.
