My goal for this course is to help you improve your writing and presentation skills, because medical educators and researchers must be able to present their work clearly and effectively in oral and written forms.

Since joining the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) at the University of Pittsburgh, my work has focused on research and practice related to teaching adult learners, with an emphasis on online teaching. My particular focus is the teaching of medical writing and communication skills. Prior to joining the ICRE, my publications centered on describing the prevalence of institution-level eportfolio implementation at accredited United States colleges and universities for the purpose of supporting regional accreditation and/or reaffirmation. Additionally, my work explored the characteristics (such as Basic Carnegie Classification) of institutions that implement eportfolios for accreditation, and the perceptions held by institutions’ accreditation liaison officers (ALOs). This work provides evidence that allows us to conclude that support for eportfolios in the literature is not carried over into practice. This finding may facilitate discussion around requirements for transparency of institutional effectiveness data.

My research interest is in implementing integrated behavioral health services into the pediatric primary care setting, particularly focusing on how this affects a practice's organizational context. In this course, I am looking forward to working on my communication skills, particularly to speak with weight and confidence.This has been a longer standing goal of mine, and I was recommended this course by my advisor.

Fun fact: You only need three fingers of your right hand to type my first and last name. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I will lose this perk when I get married in November.
