In this scene, Eddie is rushing to save a little girl from being crushed. He risks his own life to save hers, and it shows that he is a kind person who is willing to give himself up to save somebody that he does not even know. Even after he is killed in the accident he wonders if he had saved her. He was thinking about the little girls safety before even thinking about himself, and it really shows how selfless of a person he is.

In this scene when Eddie first makes it to heaven, he is surprised at how well he can move. He realizes that he does not have the pain he had just had a moment before and he starts running and feeling the way he did when he was a child. He describes that even though he is now old, there has always been a little boy inside of him wanting to fly.

Eddie meets his first person in heaven, the blue man. The man tells Eddie how heaven works and how everybody is connected in one way or another. He tells Eddie how he will meet five people who crossed paths with him at some point in their lives, and that interaction changed them forever. So that he can see how he impacted others throughout his own life.

The Blue Man is explaining to Eddie how everybody is connected in life, and why people go to funerals. He tells Eddie that "it is because the human spirit knows, deep down, that all lives intersect. That death doesn't just take someone, it misses someone else, and that small distance between being taken and being missed, lives are changed." (Albom 48). He means to tell Eddie that everything happens for a reason and that nothing is a mistake.
