         <description><![CDATA[<div>This experiment was set up to test if crickets prefer moisture or not. We used an insect tank and we separated ¼ of the cage with tape and ¾ of the cage with another piece of tape. Then we got two paper towels wet with water and put them on the ¼ of the cage and the ¾ side of the cage. Then, 10 crickets were placed at the center of the tank. Every 5 minutes we recorded how many crickets stayed in the middle that is not damp and how many preferred the damp side. The experiment lasted for a total of 10 minutes. The statistical test used for this data set was the Chi-Square test which was used to see if the crickets preferred either environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The sum of our calculated above values is 5.38 so that is our chi-square value. The probability is between 0.05 and 0.01 therefore we will reject the null hypothesis and claim there is a difference between the expected and observed values. Thus, the crickets do have a preference for the damp environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For our experiment to test how 10 crickets react to a damp environment compared to a dry environment, it seemed as if the crickets had a preference for their type of environment. The confounding variable in the experiment was that the wet paper towels could have been used by crickets because they like to climb. Therefore, the crickets may be that they wanted to climb on the paper towels and did not care about the wetness of the paper towels. In the end, we rejected the null hypothesis and concluded that the crickets had a preference for their environment because the difference we observed between the observed and expected was great enough for the difference to be significant. </div>]]></description>

On one side of the cage, we covered the outside with construction paper. This would simulate a dark environment for the crickets. After 5 minutes, we started to count how many crickets preferred each side. Then after that, we recorded how many crickets preferred each environment after 1 minute for a total of 10 minutes.&nbsp;The chi-square test was used to determine whether the crickets did have a preference for a specific environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We concluded that our data shows that the crickets prefer moisture over dry areas since is enough significant data to reject our null hypothesis that they don't have a preference. There are also other variables to take into consideration like whether they just like to climb on objects or have a preference for the feeling of the wet paper towel. In order to decipher whether or not these variables are affecting our data we would have to do more experiments. The p-value from our calculated chi-square value proved that the crickets did have a preference for an environment since it was between 0.05 and 0.01. This study was important because we were able to observe the organism's behavior with different environmental factors that we see in the real world. Therefore, crickets do have a preference for a moist environment compared to a dry environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Overall, our experiment rejected the null hypothesis and this means that the crickets that we observed had a preference for the dark environment compared to the light. This is proven when the chi-squared value we calculated using the data gave us a p-value between 0.10 and 0.05 which suggests the findings of the experiment were significant. This is important as we learned that crickets can thrive in a dark environment as they have a preference. It is also important for other scientists to carry out other experiments with crickets as they could use a dark environment for the crickets.&nbsp;In addition, scientists can study why crickets prefer a dark environment as opposed to a light one, on a biological level. </div>]]></description>

For example, &#39;The crickets mostly spent time on the moist side of the cage; at the 5 minute mark there were 8 on the moist side and 2 on the dry side.
