Absolute Threshold is the smallest level of energy required by an external stimulus to be detected by the human senses.
Vision: a lit candle from 30 miles away.
Hearing: a watch ticking 20 feet away
Smell: a drop of perfume in a 6-room house
Taste: A teaspoon of sugar in a gallon of water
Touch: a wing of a fly on your cheek, dropped 1 cm
Signal Detection Theory: a means to quantify the ability to discern between information-bearing patterns. This theory would postulate that it would be impossible to detect a constant threshold.

Subliminal Messaging

Subliminal Messaging is a signal or message sent below the normal perception of someone. Yes it is real. Some companies will put the product in the background of a movie. It's illegal because it is a manipulative way of displaying your product. The viewer doesn't really have a choice to see it or not because they are hard to find.
It would cause problems in society because advertisers would have an absurd amount of power over people.

Priming

Priming is the implicit memory effect in which exposure to a stimulus influences response to a later stimulus. It is a technique in psychology used to train a person's memory both in positive and negative ways. You could use it to remember certain things. An example is if you were shown the word yellow, you would be able to think of the word banana slightly quicker.

Difference Threshold

Difference Threshold is the smallest amount by which two sensory stimuli can differ in order for an individual to perceive them as different. An example is if your mom moved a lamp in your room, you would probably notice it because the light is coming from somewhere else. Weber's Law quantifies the perception of change in a given stimulus. The law states that the change in a stimulus that will be just noticeable is a constant ratio of the original stimulus.
