Before the reaping, Katniss lived in district 12 with her mother and sister Primrose. They lived through all the past reaping's and have survived through extreme starvation and the oppression from the capitol.

Call to Adventure

On the 74th annual Hunger Games, Primrose was selected to be the female tribute for district 12. Before thinking, Katniss immediately jumped into action to save her sister and volunteered for her place instead. Forcing her to participate and try to win for her, and her families sake because without Katniss her sister being so young wouldn't be able to provide for her and her mentally unstable mother.

Meeting the Mentor

Shortly after the reaping, Katniss and Peeta (the boy tribute for district 12) were put onto a train. There they were introduced to their mentor, Haymitch, who was one of the winners of the previous games. He was instructed to pass on his wisdom to the new tributes and teach them how to survive throughout whatever was thrown at them during the games like he did.

Crossing the threshold

Once they arrive at the capitol the tributes from all districts were to be introduced to the capital's richest crowds, and the president of Panem, Cornalious Snow, the leader of it all. Here is where Katniss and Peeta are first shown off and recognized by Snow, and where the tension was first grown between them.

Allies, Trials, and Enemies

During their 3 days of training before they entered the arena, all the tributes were put into the same room which allowed them to find their alliances, and their enemies. Although Katniss was humble and quiet, some of the other tributes were not which quickly showed her who was going to be a problem for her.

Approach to the Inmost Cave

One week after the reaping, Katniss along with all the other tributes were finally entering the arena. After being shot up into the field from tubes, they listened to a countdown from 10 and then were on their own to find a safe place to stay and weapons to remain alive.

The Supreme Ordeal

After her brutal time in the games, her and Peeta provided for each other and were the reason for each other's survival. It was announced during the games that two could win, but then tricked and told afterwards that only one was to make it out of the games. Since both were dedicated to each other, they were about to commit suicide until the last second when the capitol told them they both could win.

The road back

After winning the games, Katniss and Peeta were put back onto a train to their home in district 12. They experienced both good and bad news. The tributes were granted a measure of peace and food after being inside of the games for multiple nights. But then they were also informed that they weren't safe because of their actions during the ending of the games. Let alone all of the trauma they are now able to sit and process since they aren't inside the arena anymore.

Reward

From winning the hunger games, the tributes along with their families were given free housing in the victors village and all the money and food they could imagine. She became a celebrity across Panem and was very respected.

Refusal to the call

During and after the first games, Katniss refused to lead the rebellion. Her only goal was to survive and then stay quiet in district 12. She not only didn't want to have the popularity of being the face of Panems rebellion, she didn't want the dangers that were involved in it for her and her family.
