• His father was Augustine Washington, who was a prosperous farmer and owned several plantations in the colony of Virginia. 
• George was the first child born to Augustine’s second wife, Mary Bell Washington. 
• When he was 3, in 1735, the Washingtons moved to Little Hunting Creek Plantation, or as it would later be called Mount Vernon.
