This holiday celebrates the war won against France in 1862. This battle was known as the Battle of Puebla. It is also recognized as Mexico's independence day. This is a confusion to many because it originally wasn't. In Mexico, there are huge parties and festivals celebrating this day. There is a lot of dancing and parades, which include a lot of music. People also reenact the Battle of Puebla, as well as other traditional events. In the United States, people have recognized this holiday but it is not usually celebrated within people. Although, this is a special holiday, stores and schools are still open. Adults and children still have to go to work and school. Afterwards the celebration begins. A fun fact about Cinco de Mayo, is that most festivals take place in a very special area. They take place where the battle took place. People are also dressed up in special costumes. These costumes include Mexican and French soldiers.
