Omar Geles nació en Valledupar un 15 de Febrero de 1967, el único ancestro musical en su familia lo constituye su tío materno Pedro Castilla, quien era acordeonero. A la edad de 5 años Omar se tropezó con el acordeón, luego que su hermano Juan Manuel Geles intentara iniciarse en esas lides, sin buenos resultados. Omar aprendió de su hermano Juan Manuel a interpretar "La Cumbia Sampuesana", y enseguida a tocar por si solo el tema "Lucero Espiritual", que escuchaba siempre en la radio, en la versión de Juancho Polo Valencia. Su inclinación desde el principio fue hacia el estilo de Israel Romero, y mas tarde por la tendencia inventada por Juan Humberto Rois (Juancho Rois). Al tiempo que se desempeñaba como el acordeonero de su colegio el "Liceo Colón" de Valledupar, Omar inicia en 1974 la búsqueda del triunfo en el Festival de la leyenda Vallenata.

En 1985 por fin gana la categoría de aficionados del Festival Vallenato; pero antes de esto, ya hacía parte de un grupo muy reconocido en la región, al lado de otro muchacho debutante en el vallenato: Miguel Morales. Ellos amenizaban bailes populares, con un repertorio compuesto por los temas grabados por Rafael Orozco con "El Binomio de Oro". Omar desde la edad de siete años, y por su gran talento al interpretar el acordeón a la vez por su color de piel, y también por sus travesuras de niño, había sido bautizado por Mario Puerta Gómez con el remoquete de "El Diablito", y este apelativo sirvió, para dar años mas tarde el nombre a la joven agrupación que empezaba a abrirse paso entre los grandes. 

Su estilo ha sido básicamente romántico contribuyendo así a la expansión de este subgénero con otras organizaciones como El Binomio de Oro, Los Embajadores Vallenatos, Los Chiches etc.

Grabaron inicialmente el sencillo "Tú" que los generó éxito a nivel nacional, después vinieron más canciones como "Como Le Pago A Dios", "Mi Rival", "Un Viejo Amor" etc.

En 1992 Miguel Morales conformo su propia organización con Victor "Rey" Reyes, mientras Jesus Manuel Estrada se convertía en la voz de los Diablitos. Allí se grabaron legendarias canciones como "Donde Están Esos Amores", "Los Caminos de la Vida", "Ya Tengo Quien Me Quiera" etc. Desde 1996 ingresaría Alex Manga reemplazando a Jesus Manuel, el éxito que ha cosechado es igual o mejor que el de sus predecesores "Busca Un Confidente", "Y Yo Ni Se Diga", "A Besitos" etc. Omar Geles también ha grabado canciones como vocalista "Es Dolor", "Hoja En Blanco" etc. Ernesto Mendoza fue admitido como segunda voz en 2001, también interpreta canciones como "La Tengo".
